(I was going to post a picture of Chloraseptic spray, but Google suggested this instead)

I’ve tried peroxide, salt water swishing, Orajel, Chloraseptic (I brought a spray bottle to work to hose it down when the pain gets to be too much), etc. NOTHING makes them go away faster, or make the pain at least dissipate for more than a few minutes.

The worst part? I get them on the insides of my mouth, low down below my lips, sometimes on the insides of my cheeks, but this time? ITS ON THE UNDERSIDE OF MY TONGUE. I can’t manage. Usually I can eat on the opposite side of my mouth, avoid the area, but when eating or drinking the tongue moves. Its inevitable. And it HURTS SO MUCH.

Ugh.

Any suggestions?

Yep — Orabase or Zilactin. The latter has numbing, but both will coat the sore to help keep them from getting worse. They’re good for several hours during the day, or a full night’s sleep.

Try a vigorous scrubbing with a toothbrush.

Instead of rinsing with salt water, I usually go all in. Just wet my finger, pile up as much salt as I can, then cram it into the sore, leaving it for about a minute.

Pain, tears, drool, but it usually ends it in about a day.

Buy alum for 4 bucks. Dip finger tip in water, put finger in alum, put finger with alum on canker sore. Rinse mouth out when it stops stinging, and goes numb. It will be gone by the next day.

Orajel was always the best bet for me. The trick is to let it air dry before and after application so the gel has an opportunity to form a protective skin. The good news is that the virus that causes them goes fairly dormant as you get older. It takes a significant wound to cause a flare-up for me now.

I’ve been getting MORE as I get older. Weird.

I might try that. Nothing else seems to make them go away quicker than doing nothing.

I use Listerine or some other antiseptic mouthwash with alcohol. Stings during use but it’s worth it and hurts significantly less after.

It works well. It is getting hard to find it nowadays though.

I have this and it seemed to help. My mom had this stuff in the cabinet as I was growing up.

It is expensive. But may be worth a try.

I saw your tweet last night and forgot to send you this.

Here’s what I’ve used the past few days since we’re on the same boat.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a little more expensive than regular mouthwash, but it works miracles. It’s made specifically for canker sores.
